Find Plant Species That Look Great in Your Garden Throughout the Year
One of the biggest challenges of landscape gardening is finding plants that not only work for your climate zone, but ones that will look great throughout the year. If you want your landscaping to look good all year long, you need to take some time and compare a variety of plants–here are two you might want to try:
Evergreen shrubs are a great option when you want plants that keep their colour and leaves throughout the year. Most evergreens keep their green colour no matter what season it is, thus the reason behind their name.
One common misconception when it comes to evergreens is that they only come in a solid green colour. In truth, you can find several options that have white or gold leaves mixed with a shade of green, which creates a completely different look. Two common evergreen options are Emerald ‘N Gold Euonymus and Moonshadow Euonymus.
Both of these shrubs have a mixture of colour, but their growth rates are different. Emerald ‘N’ Gold Euonymus grows to around 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide. On the other hand, Moonshadow Euonymus is smaller and it only grows to about 2 feet tall.
When you desire more colour in your garden, try to plant different types of berry bushes. You can find several that have different features that make them colourful throughout the year.
One option is the winterberry holly, which looks similar to a traditional holly bush. The difference between the two bushes is that the winterberry bush will lose it leaves in the fall, but it will still have vibrant coloured berries on them throughout the winter months. This plant can also grow in several regions of the country such as Florida, Missouri, and Michigan just to name a few.
Another berry bush that looks great throughout the year is a beautyberry. This bush grows clusters of lavender-pink berries during one season, followed by purple or white berries in the fall. One factor to consider is that a beautyberry bush can grow quite large, so you do not want to plant this type of bush too close to your home.
When you want plants that will make your yard look good throughout the year, talk with local landscape gardening companies to research different options. The sheer number of plant species that grow and bloom even during the winter months may surprise you. Once you have this information, you can then choose the best ones for redesigning your garden.
